Help Shape What’s Next for the Library

September 4, 2026:

Stillwater Public Library is working with Collaborative Design Group (CDG) to explore possibilities for improving two important public spaces: the Children’s Library on the lower level and the Event Wing on the upper level, including the Margaret Rivers Room and the gallery.

These areas were created as part of the Library’s 2006 expansion and are now 20 years old. Since then, the ways people use the Library have changed, along with programming needs, technology, accessibility expectations, and how these spaces function day to day.

The resulting Children’s Library & Event Wing Enhancement Plan (CLEWE Plan) will identify potential design options, estimated costs, and possible phasing to help guide future decisions, renovation planning, and fundraising. This planning work is made possible by a grant awarded to the Stillwater Public Library Foundation.

We Want to Hear From You

As planning continues, we want to learn more about how you use these spaces, what works well, what could work better, and what matters most to you.

This is an opportunity to share your experiences, needs, and priorities before design concepts are finalized. Public input will be considered along with staff experience, accessibility needs, library usage, operational requirements, building conditions, and other information as CDG develops and refines concepts.

You can participate in several ways:

  • Take our short survey, available online and in paper form by the Info Desk on the lower level.
  • Visit the interactive sticker boards in the Library through September.
  • Stop by and talk with CDG and library staff during one of our informal public input sessions:
    • Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery
    • Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. near the Info Desk, to coincide with the Foundation’s free coffee

Participate in one activity or several—whatever works for you.

What Happens Next?

After the public input period, CDG and the Library will review what we heard and use that information to help develop and refine conceptual options.

The CLEWE project is currently in the planning stage, and no construction timeline has been established. No final renovation design has been selected. Any future renovation would require additional decisions about scope, funding, timing, and approvals.

Thank you for helping us plan for library spaces that will serve the community well into the future.
