Early Learning and Library Storytimes

How does a storytime led by a children’s librarian bolster early learning and development standards? Children interact with librarians who become familiar adults outside their families, aiding in their social and emotional development. Movement songs and repetitive actions shared during storytime help little bodies practice small and large motor development. Children’s librarians plan and execute varying learning approaches to give children opportunities to express themselves in music, science, crafts, and movement. Foundational concepts such as counting in books like Ten in the Bed introduce very young children to general knowledge and cognition. Attending early literacy enriched library storytimes is one road to building school success in later years.
