Check Out Nature Backpacks

Explore. Discover. Investigate.

The library is here to help families discover and learn about nature, whether it be exploring the backyard or hiking a local park. Check out the library’s Nature Backpacks and embark on an adventure with real hands-on tools that kids can use in the field like true scientists. Thanks to donations from the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library, the kid-sized packs each contain a Fundana activity scarf, binoculars, compass, tape measure, colored pencils, Washington County Park information, and Minnesota nature guides. Borrow a pack today and let the fun begin!

We have added three new themes to our Nature Backpack collection that contain tools for those wanting more. Each contains activities that can be done indoors when bugs are not active, for example.

Birding packs are perfect for a young ornithologist, filled with bird guide books, bird identification cards, a field journal, and other birdwatching supplies.
Tracks, Scats and Signs for young explorers with a keen eye for animal evidence. Contains a set of scat identification cards, a Scat & Track Quest Activity Scarf and animal track rubbing plates.
Insects and Bugs for budding entomologists. Contains insect rubbing plates and a Bug Quest activity scarf.

In addition to Nature Backpacks, the library also has books and handouts about nature exploration on display. Supplement your outdoor adventure with some nature reading. Here’s a link to a book list of handpicked titles.

Reserve a Nature Backpack online or check on availability by asking at the Public Services Desk at 651-275-4338.
